Job Description: Bookkeeper
Position Purpose: 
Perform the regular accounting routines of MC Canada and assist the Director in the performance of duties.
Time Commitment: 
1.0 FTE
Executive Director
Key Duties: 

30% 1. Design and prepare month-end reports for external agencies such as CMU, Mennonite Mission Network, MC USA, MC Manitoba, MennoMedia, Mennonite Women Canada, AMBS, etc. and maintain communication with the organizations and respond to inquiries

20% 2. Assist the Finance office in carrying out its requirements

  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations
  • Assist in the administration of the accounting software (Great Plains Dynamics and Raiser’s Edge) including training users, assigning G/L and sub ledger accounts, and troubleshooting with vendors
  • Assist the with financial statements (internal and external), and with the annual audit
  • With the Finance Consultant/Executive Director and Treasurer, plan FPAC meetings and prepare reports for FPAC and Joint Council meetings
  • Assume some responsibility for the planning and preparation for external audit including preparation of working papers

20% 3. Prepare monthly office expense allocations and some reconciliations (prepaid, A/R, etc.)

10% 4. Respond to questions, issues, and requests from staff as well as constituents

10% 5. Prepare and process regular journal entries and adjust entries

5%   6. Authorize transaction processing and codes assigned by staff

5%   7. Other duties as assigned

As Bookkeeper, Mennonite Church Canada expects the following:
  • Demonstrated strong communication and relational skills
  • Thorough understanding of MC Canada’s organizational structure and financial information needs
  • Understanding of accounting procedures, especially in a non-profit organization using fund accounting
  • Experience in various accounting functions, including A/P, A/R, Payroll, Journal Entries, statement preparation, receipting and donation accounting
  • Ability to work independently and plan work schedules for self and accounting staff
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities
  • Strong computer skills in accounting software (preferably Great Plains), word processing, spreadsheet, and database maintenance - preferably the Microsoft Office Suite
