Doug Klassen visits Burkina Faso

Mennonite Church Canada Executive Minister Doug Klassen is currently spending time with church leaders in Burkina Faso from Oct. 23 to Nov. 5. He will meet with the Congo Partnership Council and Burkina Faso Partnership Council, and visit Grace Community Church and Christ Salvation Mennonite Church. Klassen is also helping prepare for the upcoming leadership transition in the Africa Inter-Mennonite Mission office. Pray God will lead and guide in these meetings in a way that builds up the church and furthers the coming of God's reign.

International Witness

Prayer requests

Mennonite Seoul church plant

Witness workers Bock Ki and Sook Kyoung Park are planting a Mennonite church in Seoul, the capital city of South Korea. Around 10 people gather in a local café every Sunday. This group is called “Mennonite Seoul” and they are searching for a way of becoming an official Mennonite church in Seoul. Pray for the Holy Spirit to lead each person to become a disciple of Jesus Christ and for the church’s formation process within Christ's body.

Fledgling Anabaptist movement in China

Pray for Witness workers George and Tobia Veith in China as they, together with local Anabaptist study-group leaders, discern next steps in leadership development in the fledgling Anabaptist movement.  Pray for God’s leading and wisdom in planning.

Energy and health

Pray that Witness workers Tom and Christine Poovong will have the health and strength they need for a demanding schedule. Their ministry includes income generation and church planting. Recently they have personally taken on the care of a 15-year-old who needs a home.

Friedenhaus offers much to German community

We continue to support Friedenhaus (Peace House) in Ludwigshafen, Germany, which was formed to meet needs in the local community. They report a good fall of German classes, a sewing group, potlucks and discussion groups. Please pray that this ministry to the community of newcomers will be a blessing for both the volunteers and the participants.

Indigenous-Settler Relations

Government legislation for Declaration

In the previous session of Parliament before the federal election, all parties except the Conservatives supported Bill C-262. The Liberals have now promised to put forth a Bill that “establishes Bill C-262 as the floor,” proposing legislation that implements the minimum standards of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Parliament does not sit until January 2020. In the meantime, please pray that God would incline the hearts of all politicians to work together, in non-partisan fashion, to implement the Declaration.

Evangelicals on the road to reconciliation

Members of NAIITS: Indigenous Learning Community have asked friends associated with the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) to craft a joint paper exploring the kind of work that needs to happen in evangelical circles to live in right relationship with Indigenous Peoples. Steve Heinrichs has been asked to be a part of this endeavour (Mennonite Church Canada is a member of EFC). Please pray for wisdom, prophetic insight and the ability to create something that can be helpful for both Indigenous Peoples and the wider church.

This packet is intended to help you and your congregation plan a Peace Sunday worship service, as well as provide related educational, advocacy and peace-witness activities. Download the packet at
