News from our Witness workers

Witness workers in South Korea communicate peace, equality, justice in Korean churches

In August, Bock Ki Kim gave two lectures on "Understanding Conflict Transformation and Creating Peace in Our Church and in Daily Life." Bock Ki has begun working with a group of Christian leaders wrestling with issues of the Korean War. “Even though not many people pay attention to the forgotten war, we will be having the 70th anniversary next year. At the end of this meeting, we will publish a theological reflection on the Korean War.”

Sook Young Park and Bock Ki also work in church planting. They meet weekly to study the Bible together with and meet monthly for worship and potluck.

Prayer: Praise God for the increasing number of opportunities that Bock Ki and Sook Young have to share the message of peace both in their communities and within the larger Christian family.  Give thanks for their Bible study group as they become a community of faith.

Coffee for Peace model for local government in Philippines

In August, Witness worker Joji Pantoja shared about Coffee for Peace — the social enterprise established by PeaceBuilders Community, Inc., in 2007—at an event held by government and the nonprofit ACDI-VOCA. The local government is considering social enterprise as one of the solutions in addressing poverty, restoration of Indigenous arts and culture, protection of the environment and promotion of positive peace.

Prayer: Pray for the social enterprise company, Coffee for Peace. Pray for Dann and Joji Pantoja as they seek to bless their community and for the entire PeaceBuilders Community, Inc., and the Peace and Reconciliation teams already functioning in more than 30 provinces around the Philippines.

News from our partners

Mennonite Partners in China (an inter-Mennonite program in which MC Canada participates together with MCC and MC USA Network) has placed six young interns in Chinese universities for the 2019-2020 school year as a cross-culture service assignment.

Prayer: Pray for the interns in China as they start their first teaching job this month. Pray that the relationships with students and colleagues will bring mutual learning and peace building opportunities.

Indigenous-Settler Relations

Climate strikes and Indigenous rights

Youth across Canada are going on strike between September 20-27, joining thousands of students around the world as they cry out for a “new creation” and a “Green New Deal” (see One of the seven key demands Canadian youth have put forth is the “full adoption and implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples,” echoing Call to Action 43 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Please “watch and pray” with all those involved in the #globalclimatestrikes. For an event near you, go to

Bill C-262 and the federal election

On Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21, 2019), private Member’s Bill C-262—the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act—died in the Canadian Senate. Yet as we walk toward an October election, churches across Canada are now talking about the possibility of government legislation to implement the Declaration. We encourage you to ask the candidates in your riding, “Will you support a government bill to implement the Declaration that meets or exceeds the provisions of Bill C-262?”
